- Set Up a Home Base: A kitten can easily be overwhelmed in a brand-new space. Try introducing your kitten to their home by allowing them in one room to start. Give them 24 hours to adjust to that space before granting them access to more and more of your home.
- Introduce Them to Other Pets: If you have other pets, it’s wise to limit the introductions to one of them at a time. Give your older pet and your kitten plenty of space to get accustomed to each other, so that if one of them wants to hide or run off, that’s an option. These gradual introductions will allow your pets to get used to each other before they permanently cohabitate.
-
Find a Vet: Find a veterinarian in your area, and schedule an appointment for a few days after you get your kitten home.
- Spay/Neuter: Some adoption agencies spay and neuter kittens before being adopted out. If your kitten has not yet been spayed or neutered, or you’re not sure, talk to your veterinarian.
- Vaccines: Your veterinarian will be able to recommend and administer vaccines to help keep your growing kitten happy and healthy.
- Choose the Right Food: Select a nutrient-rich kitten food formula to help support your cat’s rapid growth and development during the first few months of their life. Consult your veterinarian for a specially formulated kitten food that will deliver the nutrition they need for growth and play.
